At Future Action, we are dedicated to creating a world where every child, no matter where they are, can thrive mentally, emotionally, and physically.

This commitment has led us to an inspiring partnership with the Yurie Yoshimi Academy in Namayumba, Uganda—a place where the transformative power of education and play is changing lives.

Introducing Yurie Yoshimi Academy

Nestled 42 kilometres northwest of Kampala, the Yurie Yoshimi Academy is part of the Yurie Yoshimi Memorial Primary School.

This academy goes beyond traditional education, aiming to nurture children’s talents, refresh their minds, and protect their fundamental rights, including the right to play.

What makes this academy extraordinary is its unwavering commitment to inclusivity. Welcoming children with disabilities, it provides equal opportunities for all to learn, grow, and thrive.

Despite its incredible mission, the Yurie Yoshimi Academy faces significant challenges, including limited funding, expertise, and essential resources such as sports equipment, uniforms, and learning materials.

Meet Nelson Kasenene Kalyango

At the heart of this incredible work is Nelson Kasenene Kalyango, the Mayor of Namayumba Town Council and the CEO of the Yurie Yoshimi Memorial Primary School.

As a passionate leader, Nelson is deeply committed to improving the lives of children in his community, championing inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.

Nelson’s own experiences as a person with disabilities and a wheelchair user have shaped his vision for the Yurie Yoshimi Academy. His determination and leadership serve as a powerful example of resilience, inspiring both his community and the children he works tirelessly to support.

One particularly inspiring story is of a student who joined the academy with limited confidence and a disability. Thanks to the inclusive environment fostered by Nelson and his team, this child not only found the courage to participate in group activities but also excelled in sports, becoming a role model for their peers.

Nelson’s unwavering commitment to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment aligns closely with our values at Future Action. Like us, he believes in the transformative power of education and play to change children’s life chances and enhance mental wellbeing.

Why We’re Supporting Yurie Yoshimi Academy

Our mission at Future Action has always been to ensure every child has the tools and opportunities to flourish. Partnering with the Yurie Yoshimi Academy is a natural extension of this mission.

Nelson’s values—empowering children, fostering inclusivity, and prioritising wellbeing—mirror our own. Together, we aim to provide every child with the opportunity to transform their future, regardless of their circumstances.

This partnership also allows us to share our knowledge, resources, and network to help the academy achieve its goals, while inspiring our RISE Up community to think globally about the transformative impact of mental wellbeing, movement, relationships and play.

A Call to Action: Join Us in Supporting the Yurie Yoshimi Academy

We’re inviting our global RISE Up community, if you are able to, to rally behind the Yurie Yoshimi Academy.

Whether you can donate equipment, share your expertise, contribute funding, or volunteer your time, every effort will directly support these children, helping to transform their lives and build a brighter future.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Donate resources: The academy needs materials like balls, cones, uniforms, and other essential items.

  • Share expertise: If you have skills or experience in education, sport, or child development, consider volunteering or offering guidance.

  • Partner up: Companies and individuals can collaborate with the academy to provide sustainable support.
