Congratulations to the fantastic Kate Reynolds and her team at Belvedere Academy for winning the Youth Sport Trust Outstanding Secondary Practice Award at the national conference last week!
As one of our RISE Up Ambassadors, Kate’s achievements underscore her exceptional commitment to transforming young lives through innovative physical education and movement for mental wellbeing.
Our journey together began in January 2023 when Belvedere Academy became one of the first schools to join the Liverpool RISE Up programme in partnership with Liverpool School Sports Partnership.
Since then, Kate has layered provision upon provision to create major, lasting impacts for her students.
Her inspiring RISE Up programme includes:
Developing a Sense of Belonging through Inclusive Teams in Interform Competitions:

Changing the Changing Rooms to Create Psychological Safety for her Disengaged Year 11 Students in PE:

Inspiring her Young People through our Liverpool RISE Up Celebration Day: You can watch a 40 second montage from the celebration event here.
The event was a big hit with the Belvedere Academy Students. Kate said “Our students loved this event and we’ve had loads of pupils asking when the next event is on and if they can come.”

Future Action Training Courses and a Bespoke RISE UP Programme
Kate completed our RISE Up Early Intervention Mental Wellbeing and Trauma Informed PE teacher training courses before creating a bespoke programme tailored to her context at Belvedere.

Her invaluable feedback has helped us refine our 7‑step RISE Up planning approach for colleagues, saving teachers time and supporting them in overcoming overwhelm when co‑creating their own bespoke programmes.
This is crucial when there are over 10 different ways schools can implement and layer these tried-and‑tested strategies to boost outcomes for children.
Kate's top tip for colleagues embarking on the RISE Up programme is to "Start small by looking for the easy ways to implement such as with a specific PE group or an Interform competition. Taking the 'School Wellbeing Scorecard' really helped me identify my easy wins."
Expanding Influence
Beyond this, Kate has expanded her influence by presenting at national conferences and becoming a PE Scholar Associate and a YST Catalyst.
She has also recorded a brilliant PE Insights Podcast with the fantastic Nathan Walker, sharing her insights with a wider audience—you can listen to that brilliant episode here.
We are so happy for you, Kate, that your passion and incredible work have been recognised at a national level.
